Methods for Measuring Frost Tolerance of Conifers: A Systematic Map
نویسندگان
چکیده
Frost tolerance is the ability of plants to withstand freezing temperatures without unrecoverable damage. Measuring frost involves various steps, each which will vary depending on objectives study. This systematic map takes an overall view literature that uses measuring techniques in gymnosperms, focusing mainly conifers. Many different have been used for testing, and there has little change methodology since 2000. The gold standard remains field observation study, which, due its cost, frequently substituted by other techniques. Closed enclosure tests (all non-field tests) are done using types equipment inducing artificial freezing. An examination indicates several factors be controlled order measure a manner similar Equipment allows controlling rate, exposure time thawing rate would obtain results closer studies. Other important study design number test used, range selected decrements between temperatures, should based expected tissue species.

Introduction: Antioxidant defense system, including enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, protects cells from oxidative damage by neutralizing oxidant compounds. Increasing the production of oxidant species and decrease activity of antioxidant system causes oxidative stress. The role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of human diseases and strengthening of human antioxidant defense sys...
متن کاملA Systematic Review of Statistical Methods Used to Test for Reliability of Medical Instruments Measuring Continuous Variables
Objective(s): Reliability measures precision or the extent to which test results can be replicated. This is the first ever systematic review to identify statistical methods used to measure reliability of equipment measuring continuous variables. This studyalso aims to highlight the inappropriate statistical method used in the reliability analysis and its implication in the medical practice. ...
متن کاملFrost-induced reversible shrinkage of bark of mature subalpine conifers
Temporal and spatial patterns of stem and root radius changes were continuously measured on mature, subalpine Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) over 2 years. In addition, freezing experiments with stem segments of saplings were carried out in a climate chamber. The dynamics of the radius fluctuations were analyzed in relation to temperature profiles of air, bark, and soil. We found that b...
متن کاملEvaluation of centrifugal methods for measuring xylem cavitation in conifers, diffuse- and ring-porous angiosperms.
A centrifugal method is used to measure 'vulnerability curves' which show the loss of hydraulic conductivity in xylem by cavitation. Until recently, conductivity was measured between bouts of centrifugation using a gravity-induced head. Now, conductivity can be measured during centrifugation. This 'spin' method is faster than the 'gravity' technique, but correspondence between the two has not b...

In this review, we discuss the multiple definitions of 'drought tolerance' and the biological processes in...
